Founded in 1998, the John Dewey High School FIRST Robotics Challenge(FRC) robotics team aims to equip a community of students passionate about science and technology with the skills and initiative to become the next generation of leaders and create positive change in their respective career fields.
Mako was our 2022 season competitor which featured a unique, double synchronized catapult design, reminiscient of medieval times which earned us the Creativity Award at the New York Tech Valley Regional.

Students on our mechanical team get hands-on work with our robots and machines, from assembling the drivetrain to operating industry-grade machinery in our workshop such as an X-carve, laser cutter, CNC cutter, chop saws, drill presses, and 3D-printers(including a Stratasys F270).
The Software team is responsible for programming the robot's driver controls, autonomous functions, and pathing. Learn how to program in Java through encoder-based logic, PID control and more.
Computer Aided Design(CAD) is integral to creating a perfect robot scaling from millimeters to feet. The CAD team works alongside the mechanical team to efficiently create systems and simulate robot functions.
The Outreach team is responsible for spreading FIRST values and robotics in our local community by hosting outreach events and interacting with other robotics communities.
The Imagery team is responsible for maintaining the image of the team through design, such as team apparel, advertisement design, and more.
